Senior Embedded Software Engineer (Robotics)

Senior Embedded Software Engineer (Embedded IoT): Developing and implementing the core embedded software for autonomous long-range VTOL platforms with an accent on safety-critical flight software and resilient navigation. Focus on integrating complex sensor fusion, optimizing firmware architectures for GNSS-denied environments, and implementing high-reliability avionics.

Location: Gilching, Germany. Hybrid (one flexible remote day per week)

What you will do

• Design, implement, and optimize the embedded firmware stack for the Reliant VTOL platform.
• Develop safety-critical flight software, including flight control, navigation, and mission management functionalities.
• Export and integrate navigation algorithms from MATLAB/Simulink into the embedded autopilot framework.
• Implement BSPs, peripheral drivers, and integrate sensors including IMUs, GNSS, radar altimeters, and vision-based systems.
• Improve firmware build systems and CI/CD pipelines using GitLab CI.
• Collaborate with AI and Edge Computing teams to integrate onboard processing capabilities into flight systems.

Requirements

• Several years of experience developing embedded software for microcontroller-based systems.
• Excellent programming skills in C with modern embedded software design principles.
• Strong understanding of ARM Cortex-M microcontrollers and communication protocols (UART, SPI, I2C, CAN, Ethernet).
• Experience with RTOS-based systems (FreeRTOS, Zephyr, uC/OS or similar).
• Proficiency with Git, GitLab, and CI/CD-based embedded development.
• English: minimum B2 level required.

Nice to have

• Experience with C++.
• Familiarity with UAV systems, robotics, or aerospace applications.
• Experience with sensor fusion, inertial navigation, or autonomous systems.
• Knowledge of safety-critical software development and fault-tolerant system design.
