Senior Software Engineer, Java (IT Operations)

Location: Remote within the USA for residents of CA, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, KS, ME, MA, NJ, NC, NY, OR, TN, TX, VA, and WA; hybrid work is available through offices in Austin, Texas, and Tampa, Florida. Chicago city limits are excluded unless the candidate resides outside the city proper or is willing to self-relocate.

Salary: $160,000–$240,000 per year for roles based in California, Colorado, New Jersey, Washington, and New York.

What you will do

• Design and develop scalable, high-availability software applications and platform improvements.
• Build and maintain mission-critical services supporting millions of endpoints and servers.
• Influence architecture decisions involving scalability, maintainability, performance, and technical debt.
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering and technology teams on technical decisions.
• Mentor junior engineers and establish technical standards and quality practices.
• Own technical initiatives, address operational challenges, and improve software based on support data.

Requirements

• 10+ years of Java software development experience, particularly with product applications.
• 5+ years of experience building highly scalable systems.
• Experience scaling systems and solving complex system design challenges.
• Strong object-oriented programming design knowledge and expertise in API design and RESTful services, including Jersey or Spring.
• Proficiency in relational database design and development.
• In-depth knowledge of software quality testing practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with caching systems, particularly Redis.
• Experience with Kotlin, C++, Golang, Postgres, or AWS.
• Knowledge of asynchronous application design and client-server architecture.
