Propulsion Controls Engineer, Motor / Power Electronics (Aerospace): Architecting, implementing, and validating control algorithms and embedded C/C++ software for electric aircraft propulsion systems with an accent on motor control, resonant converters, DC-DC converters, and safety-critical interfaces. Base pay: $144,000–$198,000 per year

What you will do

  • Architect, implement, and verify advanced control algorithms for electric propulsion systems across motor control or power electronics.
  • Develop interfaces between flight control computers, power inverters, propulsion controllers, and battery management units.
  • Develop and troubleshoot safety-critical embedded C/C++ code for real-time aerospace applications.
  • Build plant models, control architectures, simulations, HIL environments, and iron-bird validation setups.
  • Design redundant fault detection, isolation, and recovery logic for flight safety.
  • Support flight-test programs, prototype integration, system-level debugging, data analysis, and technical documentation under DO-178C and DO-254 standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • At least 2 years of control systems engineering experience in electric propulsion, power electronics, motor control, flight controls, EV powertrains, or energy storage.
  • Proficiency in embedded C/C++ for real-time, safety-critical applications.
  • Strong experience in either resonant converter and DC-DC converter controls or advanced motor/generator control algorithms such as FOC, DTC, observers, and sensorless control.
  • Experience with MATLAB/Simulink, HIL testing, microcontrollers, and I2C, SPI, or CAN communication protocols.
  • Work visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Nice to have

  • Electric propulsion experience in aerospace or EV applications.
  • Knowledge of battery management systems, high-voltage power electronics, and high-voltage safety.
  • Experience with flight-critical systems, state machine design, hardware bring-up, and motor/generator drive integration.
  • Familiarity with DO-178C and DO-254 aerospace standards.
