What you will do

• Define and own the technical architecture for authentication systems, including a complete edge authentication redesign.
• Lead the design and implementation of large-scale, multi-quarter initiatives across multiple services and teams.
• Develop backend services using Golang (approximately 55% of the role).
• Mentor and develop senior engineers, providing technical guidance and design feedback.
• Serve as the technical authority for identity protocols, driving the implementation of OAuth, OIDC, SAML, LDAP, and SCIM.
• Drive cross-team alignment on authentication standards and best practices across the organization.

Requirements

• Deep expertise in distributed systems engineering with Go and a track record of delivering large-scale production systems.
• Expert-level understanding of modern identity standards and threat models (OAuth 2.x/2.1, OIDC, SAML).
• Experience building and operating low-latency, high-throughput services in multi-tenant environments.
• Proven ability to lead complex initiatives that span multiple teams or systems independently.
• Must be located in the UK, Germany, Spain, Ireland, or Sweden.
• English: C1+ level (excellent written and verbal communication) is required.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with Kubernetes.
• Experience with TypeScript and React.
• Knowledge of OpenFGA and KiFederate IDP.
• Experience in security-critical environments or maintaining Open Source projects.
• Familiarity with observability tooling (Grafana, Prometheus, OpenTelemetry).
