Principal Software Engineer - Mobile Platform (React Native)

What you will do

• Set the technical direction for the hybrid mobile platform across React Native, iOS and Android.
• Define which capabilities should be shared and which should remain native, including how the layers integrate.
• Turn the architecture into production code with strong foundations for performance, reliability and observability.
• Launch a React Native product surface in production and provide stable platform primitives for feature teams.
• Lead Staff and Senior engineers through the migration and support difficult architectural decisions.
• Drive platform adoption across major product teams and establish patterns used by a broad engineering organisation.

Requirements

• Production experience building or significantly evolving large-scale cross-platform mobile architecture.
• Experience leading the migration of a mature, live mobile product onto a new architecture.
• Principal-level technical leadership across multiple teams and organisation-wide architectural influence.
• Hands-on engineering depth with strong fundamentals in data structures, complexity and system-level trade-offs.
• Deep knowledge of shared-code runtimes, native boundaries, bundle delivery and performance profiling on real devices.
• Strong fundamentals across both iOS and Android, including mobile performance, reliability, crash monitoring and optimisation.

Nice to have

• Deep production experience with React Native and React internals.
• Rust or C/C++ experience building portable mobile libraries.
• Open-source contributions to React Native, Flutter, Kotlin Multiplatform, Expo or related ecosystems.
• Experience with mobile CI/CD, release trains and over-the-air updates at scale.
• Practical use of AI tooling in engineering work.
