Salary: €70,000 - €110,000 (Bulgaria/Spain) / 250,000 - 480,000 PLN (Poland)

What you will do

• Design and maintain high-performance backend services for fiat payment processing, settlement, and reconciliation.
• Build and evolve integrations with banking partners and payment networks to support multi-rail, multi-currency operations.
• Develop and maintain APIs managing the full transaction lifecycle, including initiation, status tracking, and exception handling.
• Improve system observability, performance, and resilience through advanced monitoring and alerting.
• Collaborate with cross-functional squads, including product and design, to deliver high-impact financial features.
• Mentor peers and champion engineering best practices through code reviews and technical design sessions.

Requirements

• Deep proficiency in Java, Kotlin, or similar JVM-based languages.
• Experience designing and operating microservices in distributed systems environments.
• Solid understanding of relational databases (PostgreSQL) and event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS/SNS).
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure-as-code concepts.
• Must be located in South Africa, Bulgaria, Poland, or Spain.

Nice to have

• Experience in fintech, payments, or banking infrastructure (clearing, settlement).
• Exposure to stablecoin or cryptocurrency infrastructure and fiat-to-crypto bridging.
• Knowledge of Domain-Driven Design (DDD) and hexagonal architecture patterns.
• Experience with reconciliation systems, idempotency, and eventual consistency in financial workflows.
