Journeyman Systems Engineer

What you will do

• Build, sustain, and optimize shared data platforms, infrastructure baselines, and analytical environments supporting AI/ML and data science tools.
• Configure enterprise API frameworks and geospatial services to enable data integration across domains.
• Implement and maintain infrastructure data pipelines and automated workflows that transform raw data into operational intelligence.
• Apply data governance, access controls, federal security standards, government baselines, and DISA STIG requirements.
• Troubleshoot system failures, performance bottlenecks, and configuration issues across shared data infrastructure.
• Collaborate with development teams, product owners, and data scientists while documenting architectures, configurations, and operating procedures.

Requirements

• High school education and 6–9 years of experience, or equivalent experience.
• DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification, such as Security+ CE, CySA+, or CCNA Security.
• Systems engineering experience with database infrastructure, data platforms, or enterprise software systems.
• Experience with big data systems, automated ETL/ELT pipelines, or enterprise API connections.
• Experience with lifecycle management, configuration baselines, performance tuning, and enterprise tools such as Jira, Azure DevOps, or ServiceNow.
• Active Secret Clearance required. Foundational knowledge of virtualization, Linux/Windows operating systems, cloud storage, and network boundaries is required.

Nice to have

• Experience supporting the U.S. Coast Guard, DHS, or federal maritime data initiatives.
• Technical certifications such as CompTIA Linux+, AWS/Azure Administrator Associate, or database and data engineering credentials.
• Knowledge of Docker, Kubernetes, infrastructure as code, Python, Bash, or PowerShell.
