Manager, Mechanical Actuator Development (Aerospace)

Salary: $172,000–$230,000 base pay annually

What you will do

• Lead a team of design and mechanical systems engineers developing flight-critical electromechanical actuation systems from concept through production.
• Own actuator mechanical design and integration of motors, geartrains, rolling-element screws, bearings, brakes, housings, sensors, and electronics.
• Perform trade studies, develop system-level models, and optimize architecture, mass, performance, and fault tolerance.
• Create and review CAD models, drawings, specifications, and requirements; lead design reviews and validation activities.
• Coordinate with program management, flight controls, GNC, power systems, airframe, software, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and test engineering.
• Mentor engineers, oversee suppliers and partnerships, and support DFMEA, safety, reliability, testing, and technical performance.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
• 8+ years of experience designing actuated mechanisms or electromechanical systems.
• Experience with GD&T, kinematic analysis, materials selection, bearing sizing, gear design, and ball or lead screw design.
• Experience with structural analysis, including hand calculations, finite-element methods, static, modal, buckling, and fatigue analysis.
• Knowledge of 14 CFR Part 23 systems compliance and strong ownership, communication, and technical decision-making skills.
• Experience with Siemens NX CAD and Simcenter or ANSYS FEA tools.

Nice to have

• Familiarity with PDM and aerospace requirements management systems.
• Project or program management experience.
• Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, Mathcad, or LabVIEW.
• Hands-on machine shop or mechanical assembly experience.
• Experience with RTCA DO-160, structural, or actuator mechanism testing, or aviation experience.
