Cost Consultant, Development Advisory (Construction)

Location: Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada; remote role with travel to client sites 1–2 days per week across the Atlantic region

Salary: $65,000–$90,000 base compensation per year

What you will do

• Prepare conceptual and detailed cost estimates, quantity take-offs, and project costing based on drawings and contract documentation.
• Deliver project monitoring services, including site visits, contractor progress claim reviews, change order assessments, and project reporting.
• Support budgeting, cost validation, pricing research, and cost analysis across construction and development projects.
• Collaborate with senior consultants, contractors, suppliers, lenders, clients, and internal teams across the Atlantic region.
• Build expertise across estimating and monitoring while taking on increasing responsibility for complex projects.

Requirements

• Diploma or degree in architectural engineering technology, construction management, quantity surveying, architecture, building science, construction, or a related discipline.
• Experience in estimating, quantity surveying, cost consulting, project monitoring, or construction cost management.
• Knowledge of construction principles, drawings, specifications, contracts, project documentation, and cost analysis.
• Ability to prepare quantity take-offs, review change orders, analyze pricing, and maintain accurate deliverables under deadlines.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills with clients, contractors, suppliers, lenders, consultants, and senior stakeholders.
• Ability to work remotely while travelling to client sites 1–2 days per week across the Atlantic region.

Nice to have

• Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) or Construction Estimator Certified (CEC) designation with CIQS, or active progress toward a designation.
• Experience with CostX, Bluebeam, Microsoft Excel, and related construction or estimating software.
• International quantity surveying experience or equivalent education.
