What you will do
- Investigate methods for exploiting DER and smart building flexibility under limited data availability.
- Develop AI and ML models to support coordinated operation of distribution systems.
- Create surrogate models to enhance system observability and address operational uncertainty.
- Collaborate with industrial partners and academic researchers across disciplines.
- Assist in teaching activities, including student supervision and laboratory sessions.
- Publish research findings and contribute to open science initiatives.
Requirements
- MSc degree in a highly technical discipline (e.g., computer science, electrical engineering) with top-of-class performance.
- English proficiency: Minimum TOEFL 100 or IELTS 7.0 per sub-skill.
- Solid foundation in machine learning and/or operational research.
- Basic knowledge of power systems.
- Independent, self-motivated, and eager to conduct fundamental research.
- Must be able to relocate to the Netherlands for the duration of the appointment.
Nice to have
- Knowledge of electrical distribution systems, power flow, and congestion management.
- Experience with optimization methods and scheduling problems (e.g., Pyomo).
- Proficiency in Python, command-line tools, and version control.
