Staff Software Engineer (Agentic AI, LLM Orchestration)

Waymo is an autonomous driving technology company building the Waymo Driver for trusted, fully autonomous ride-hail.

What you will do

• Design and develop agentic AI components for multi-agent orchestration, tool execution, and reasoning loops for event triage.
• Engineer scalable agentic workflows using LLM orchestration frameworks to automate and augment triage for Engineering and SWQOps.
• Implement stateful agentic infrastructure, including long-term memory management (RAG, vector databases), semantic routing, and internal tool integrations.
• Collaborate with partner teams to embed autonomous agents into the Waymo Driver evaluation lifecycle.
• Break down complex automation problems into multi-agent projects and drive technical execution of the team roadmap.

Requirements

• 5+ years of software engineering experience designing, building, and maintaining complex distributed systems.
• Proven applied LLM and Agentic AI experience building multi-agent systems, reasoning engines, or autonomous workflows.
• Strong proficiency with agent orchestration frameworks and advanced prompt engineering.
• Ability to execute technical strategy and deliver end-to-end development of AI-native applications with cross-functional teams.
• Excellent communication skills to clarify technical limitations and solutions for partner teams.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science (or related) or equivalent practical experience.

Salary: $251,000—$310,000 USD (base salary range)
