TL;DR

FOIA Paralegal (Legal): Processing Freedom of Information Act requests and supporting federal legal missions with an accent on document review, redaction, and privilege screening. Focus on applying FOIA regulations, conducting legal research, and utilizing eDiscovery tools to deliver high-quality litigation support under pressure.

Location: Must be based in the United States (Washington, DC / Arlington, VA / Remote / Hybrid).

Salary: $50,000 – $200,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Conduct searches and analyze document sets to identify responsive and non-responsive materials.
  • Screen documents for privilege and FOIA exemptions.
  • Redact and code responsive documents for production.
  • Perform legal research using tools like LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Draft legal motions and memoranda.
  • Maintain document review and file management systems.

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen or authorized to work in the US to obtain government security clearance.
  • Paralegal certificate, JD, or current enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year of study completed.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FOIA rules, regulations, and exemption application.
  • Proficiency in legal research tools and standard legal citation.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Nice to have

  • Two years of experience using Nuix Investigate for document review.
  • Two years of experience processing FOIA requests for federal agencies.
  • Trial experience.
  • Experience with Relativity or other eDiscovery platforms.
