What you will do

• Own optomechanical design efforts including concept development, trade studies, and hardware sizing.
• Perform subsystem and system-level analyses including STOP analysis, tolerance stackups, and alignment planning.
• Support Design for Manufacturing/Assembly (DFM/DFA) to drive continuous improvement.
• Collaborate on instrument assembly, integration, and test (AI&T) planning and implementation.
• Conduct environmental testing (vibration, TVAC) and system characterization.
• Communicate effectively with cross-functional engineering teams, vendors, and program managers.

Requirements

• Must be a U.S. person (citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee) to comply with ITAR/EAR regulations.
• B.S., M.S., or Ph.D. in an engineering field or equivalent experience.
• 5+ years of hands-on experience designing optomechanical hardware.
• Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks preferred) and STOP analysis tools (FEA, Sigfit, Zemax).
• Experience with spacecraft, infrared remote sensing instruments, and imaging systems.
• Experience with system integration and delivery of complex hardware/software systems.

Nice to have

• Experience with requirements development, error budgets, and V&V planning.
• Root cause analysis skills including data analysis and testing.
• Basic software/scripting skills (Python, C++) for data analysis or automation.
• Experience working in cleanroom environments.
