Principal Fire Surveyor (Fire Protection)

Location: Glasgow, Scotland, United Kingdom; regular travel to UK client sites and occasional overnight stays required.

What you will do

• Carry out active and passive fire protection surveys, fire compartmentation surveys, fire stopping oversight, fire door inspections, and occasional fire risk assessments.
• Prepare conclusive technical reports based on site inspection findings using bespoke digital fire protection software and Microsoft Word.
• Assess compliance with British fire safety legislation and standards, including Approved Document B, BS9999, BS9991, BS7974, and BS8214.
• Liaise with product manufacturers and contractors regarding tested details, primary test evidence, and installation requirements.
• Manage a personal client base, conduct site meetings and surveys, and provide specialist CPD presentations when required.
• Maintain current knowledge of industry guidance, product literature, and passive fire protection developments.

Requirements

• Degree in Building Surveying, Fire Safety Management, or a similar discipline.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a private vehicle.
• Understanding of fire safety design and guidance for different building types.
• Experience conducting fire compartmentation surveys for internal fire stopping installations and advising contractors using relevant manufacturer literature.
• Ability to produce in-depth technical reports from site inspection information using digital fire protection software and Microsoft Word.
• Ability to enter survey data through a mobile or tablet app, work independently, and manage personal workload.
• Advanced knowledge of construction methods and forms of construction.
• Knowledge of internal passive fire protection products, fire testing regimes, and product fields of application based on manufacturer installation details.
• Advanced knowledge of refurbishment schemes and managing or advising contractors on-site.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to obtain relevant information from involved parties to create robust reports.

Nice to have

• Good knowledge of the Fire Risk Assessment process and general risks and hazards within the built environment.
• Experience conducting intrusive external wall surveys across new and existing high-rise residential, office, retail, storage, and historic buildings.
