Ph.D. Research Intern (HPC/AI)

TL;DR

Ph.D. Research Intern (HPC/AI): Conducting applied research in computing systems architecture with an accent on energy-efficient HPC systems, middleware, and AI infrastructure. Focus on building innovative tools and technologies for large-scale compute infrastructures, including digital twins and heterogeneous memory management.

Location: Hybrid role, must be based in or able to work from Basel (CH), Grenoble (FR), or Bristol (UK) with 2 days per week in the office.

What you will do

• Conduct research on energy-efficient HPC systems, including data movement scheduling and memory management.
• Develop and implement innovative technologies for secure AI/HPC infrastructure and digital twins.
• Collaborate with research teams and external partners to translate novel ideas into practical solutions.
• Contribute to the full research lifecycle from initial design and development to evaluation and technology transfer.
• Provide technical influence and thought leadership within the research community.

Requirements

• Currently pursuing or recently completed an MS or Ph.D. in a STEM discipline.
• Proficiency in compiled languages (C, C++, or Fortran) and interpreted environments (Python).
• Experience with parallel programming models such as MPI, CUDA, OpenMP, or HIP.
• Ability to work in a hybrid environment in Basel, Grenoble, or Bristol.
• Strong systems programming and software engineering skills.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality research, evidenced by publications in top-tier conferences or journals.
