HPE Labs - EMEA Research Lab Ph.D. Intern (HPC/AI)

Location: Hybrid, with an expectation to work an average of 2 days per week from an HPE office in Basel, Switzerland; Grenoble, France; or Bristol, UK

What you will do

• Accelerate applied research in computing systems architecture, with a focus on technologies for sustainability.
• Build technologies and tools for energy-efficient high-performance computing systems.
• Research data movement scheduling in the Maestro middleware and multi-GPU heterogeneous memory management in the Mamba memory layer abstraction library.
• Develop secure AI/HPC infrastructure capabilities, including confidential computing and automated SELinux configuration of compute nodes.
• Work on digital twins of large compute infrastructures within the Exadigit initiative.
• Contribute across the full research lifecycle, from novel ideas and design through development, evaluation, and technology transfer, while collaborating with internal teams and external partners.

Requirements

• At least a B.Sc. equivalent in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics discipline, while pursuing or having recently completed an MS or Ph.D.
• Development experience in compiled languages such as C, C++, or Fortran, plus interpreted environments such as Python.
• Experience with parallel programming models including OpenMP, MPI, CUDA, OpenACC, HIP, or PGAS languages.
• Strong systems programming, software engineering, research, and development skills.
• Ability to generate, frame, and conduct leadership research, demonstrated for example through publications in top-tier conferences or journals.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
