What you will do

• Lead the design and modernization of patient-facing backend services and communication pipelines.
• Drive API-first architecture, including BFF and orchestration patterns.
• Implement event-driven workflows using AWS EventBridge and asynchronous messaging.
• Ensure secure authentication, authorization, and data handling for sensitive patient information.
• Mentor engineering team members and elevate system design and testing standards.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to influence architectural direction and product decisions.

Requirements

• 10+ years of backend engineering experience in high-scale distributed systems.
• Must be legally authorized to work in Canada without employer sponsorship.
• Must be based in Ontario with flexibility for Pacific/Eastern time zone collaboration.
• Deep expertise in Python and modern backend frameworks like FastAPI or Flask.
• Proven experience designing event-driven architectures within AWS.
• Strong understanding of service boundaries, microservices, and secure API governance.

Nice to have

• Experience scaling communication platforms (email, SMS, notifications).
• Familiarity with BFF patterns for modern frontend applications.
• Experience in regulated environments (HIPAA, PHI/PII).
• Hands-on experience with contract testing frameworks like Pact.
