TL;DR
Senior Software Engineer (Identity & Authorization): Building and scaling core authentication and authorization services for the Cloud platform with an accent on RBAC/ReBAC models, protocol-level security (OIDC/SAML), and high-performance telemetry pipelines. Focus on designing adoptable SDKs, ensuring production reliability for critical path systems, and migrating legacy auth implementations to a unified platform.

What you will do
- Design and build platform services for authentication, authorization, and audit across Cloud.
- Model complex permissions and access control primitives including RBAC and ReBAC.
- Implement protocol-level support for SAML, SCIM, OIDC, OAuth2, and passwordless flows.
- Develop telemetry pipelines to ensure all authorization decisions are observable and queryable.
- Partner with product teams to migrate bespoke auth implementations to the shared platform.
- Participate in on-call rotations and own production reliability for critical system components.
Requirements
- Minimum 4+ years of experience building production backend systems at scale.
- Proficiency in at least one systems language (Go, Rust, C++) and one application language (TypeScript, Python).
- Hands-on experience designing authentication or authorization services (e.g., token issuers, policy engines, FGA/ReBAC systems).
- Deep working knowledge of SAML, SCIM, OIDC, and OAuth2 protocols.
- Experience operating distributed systems with a focus on consistency, caching, and multi-region concerns.
- Must be based in Canada for this remote role.
Nice to have
- Experience contributing to Zanzibar-style authorization systems (e.g., OpenFGA, SpiceDB).
- Background in designing multi-tenant permission models with support for hierarchies and ABAC.
- Proven track record of shipping internal SDKs that are widely adopted across an organization.
