External Communications Manager I (Healthcare)

Location: Denver, CO, United States

Salary: $80,400–$90,000 per year, plus bonus eligibility based on company and individual performance.

What you will do

• Manage media relations, respond to media inquiries, and proactively pitch stories, commentary, and executive perspectives.
• Build relationships with healthcare, business, and trade journalists covering healthcare services and Medicaid managed care.
• Draft, edit, and distribute press releases, media statements, op-eds, letters to the editor, executive biographies, fact sheets, and talking points.
• Develop corporate social media strategy, content calendars, and supporting materials for tradeshows, speaking opportunities, and award submissions.
• Monitor media coverage, social channels, sentiment, and emerging narratives; measure and report on communications performance.
• Coordinate external communications during significant announcements, organizational changes, reputational events, and crises across internal communications, marketing, government affairs, legal, investor relations, human resources, and business units.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Seven or more years of experience in media relations, public relations, or external communications.
• Proven record of securing earned media coverage and managing journalist relationships in a corporate or agency environment.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce accurate and compelling content for varied audiences.
• Ability to manage concurrent workstreams, prioritize competing demands, meet deadlines, and handle sensitive, crisis-related, pre-announcement, and executive communications materials with discretion.
• Working knowledge of healthcare services and the regulatory and reputational dynamics of Medicaid-funded programs; experience in healthcare or Medicaid managed care is preferred.
