TL;DR

Sr Engineering Manager, Web Apps (Web Applications/SaaS): Lead day-to-day engineering execution and people management for MZLA’s hosted subscription products with an accent on delivery discipline, service reliability, release readiness, and engineering tradeoffs. Focus on building structured team operating rhythms, improving engineering practices (code review, testing, observability, CI/CD), and coordinating launches while maintaining quality, privacy, and user trust.

Location: Remote (EST overlap strongly preferred; permanent work authorization required for the country markets specified in the posting; no visa sponsorship)

Salary: US $175,000 - $200,000 USD; Canada $155,000 - $180,000 CAD

What you will do

  • Lead day-to-day engineering execution: priorities, ownership, timelines, risks, dependencies, and quality expectations.
  • Manage Web Services engineers and contractors, including coaching, feedback, prioritization, performance support, and team development.
  • Own team budget and resource planning, including contractor/vendor/tooling/service/operational expense and headcount inputs.
  • Translate product direction and technical priorities into coordinated engineering plans and measurable outcomes.
  • Establish team processes and operating rhythms to improve clarity, accountability, quality, and predictability.
  • Improve engineering practices across code review, testing, documentation, release readiness, observability, CI/CD, incident learning, and technical debt management; coordinate launch and operational readiness with cross-functional partners.

Requirements

  • 15+ years of industry experience, including 10+ years of engineering leadership experience in software product, hosted services, SaaS, cloud-based applications, communications platforms, or similarly complex environments.
  • 5+ years of people management experience in an engineering environment (coaching, feedback, prioritization, performance support, career development).
  • Experience managing senior technical teams, budget/resource planning, and cross-functional partnerships (product stakeholders, infrastructure/SRE, contractors, external partners).
  • Technical depth to evaluate tradeoffs, release risks, codebase quality, architectural implications, service reliability, security/privacy considerations, operational readiness, and engineering practices (code review, testing, documentation, observability, CI/CD, incident learning, technical debt).
  • Work authorization: must reside in and have permanent work authorization for the country location(s) specified in the posting; no visa sponsorship.
  • Time zone: consistent overlap with EST working hours is required; strong preference for candidates located in or closely aligned with EST.

Nice to have

  • Experience with hosted email, calendaring, scheduling, secure file sharing, or related subscription products.
  • Experience with identity systems and billing/subscription integrations and customer lifecycle workflows.
  • Experience in open-source or maintainer-style engineering environments.
  • Experience with privacy-preserving product design, data minimization, security reviews, compliance needs, or user-controlled systems.
