Principal, Legal AI Engineering (AI)

Location: Hybrid in West Hollywood, San Francisco, or Palo Alto, California

Salary: $180,000–$220,000 annually for San Francisco; Los Angeles compensation is location-adjusted, and other locations may receive geographic adjustments.

What you will do

• Identify high-impact opportunities to apply AI to legal research, analysis, contract review, regulatory compliance, and product counseling.
• Design, prototype, and ship AI-powered assistants, agents, retrieval systems, and evaluators for real legal work.
• Connect tools to document repositories, knowledge bases, and internal systems within IT, Security, Privacy, and Legal Operations governance.
• Measure quality against human baselines, debug edge cases, tune prompts and pipelines, and maintain system performance as models and regulations change.
• Train attorneys, create documentation and examples, gather feedback, and improve adoption across hirify.global brands.
• Develop the roadmap for an AI-native legal function and scale proven capabilities across teams and brands.

Requirements

• 4+ years building, deploying, or applying AI products and tools, including 2+ years of hands-on work with LLMs.
• Hands-on experience with prompting, agentic workflows, retrieval-augmented generation, evaluations, and fine-tuning or model selection.
• Technical fluency with code or AI coding tools, APIs, data, integrations, permissions, and guardrails.
• Experience shipping systems to real users, measuring results, and iterating based on feedback.
• Strong communication skills across legal, technical, and business audiences.
• Ability to work in a hybrid role based in West Hollywood, San Francisco, or Palo Alto, California.

Nice to have

• Experience building AI products in legal, healthcare, financial services, trust and safety, or other regulated domains.
• Experience as a legal engineer, legal AI engineer, legal solutions architect, legal technologist, or applied AI engineer.
• Experience supporting multiple business units or brands with shared tooling.
