What you will do

• Lead and develop engineers responsible for core database infrastructure, including sharded Postgres clusters and migration tooling.
• Own the reliability and operational excellence of the data tier by driving incident response and system resilience.
• Set technical direction and roadmap, balancing reliability investments with platform capabilities.
• Partner with product and engineering leadership to prioritize work across competing demands.
• Recruit, retain, and grow top infrastructure engineering talent while fostering a high-performance team culture.
• Champion the adoption of AI-assisted tooling to improve developer experience and database operations.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience managing infrastructure, platform, or backend engineering teams.
• Must be based in the United States.
• Proven technical depth in distributed systems, stateful infrastructure, or data-intensive backend systems.
• Track record of building on-call culture, incident response processes, and reliability practices.
• Experience coaching engineers through promotions and navigating performance management.
• Comfort leading distributed teams across multiple time zones.

Nice to have

• Experience managing managers or leading multiple teams across related technical domains.
• Hands-on experience operating relational databases at scale (Postgres or MySQL).
• Familiarity with AI/LLM-assisted developer tooling.
• Background in adjacent infrastructure domains like caching, streaming, or observability.
