Infrastructure and Technical Project Leader (Bioinformatics): Leading the development and operation of technical infrastructure for macromolecular structure resources like PDBe and AlphaFold with an accent on scalability, reliability, and sustainable data delivery. Focus on designing robust data pipelines, managing a team of engineers, and implementing technical roadmaps for global scientific datasets.

Location: Hybrid (Hinxton, UK). Most of the team work two days on site and three from home.

Salary: £4,206 per month (after tax)

What you will do

• Define and implement the technical strategy for PDBe data infrastructure and services.
• Lead, manage, and mentor the Infrastructure and Production sub-team.
• Design and operate robust infrastructure supporting the PDBe archive, PDBe-KB, and AFDB resources.
• Oversee and continuously improve weekly data release pipelines and data discovery mechanisms.
• Collaborate with central IT services to design and maintain sustainable infrastructure solutions.
• Evaluate emerging technologies and their potential application to PDBe services.

Requirements

• Master’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, Data Engineering, or related field.
• 6+ years of experience designing and operating large-scale data infrastructure in production environments.
• Proven experience leading and mentoring infrastructure or software engineering teams.
• Strong programming skills in Python and experience developing RESTful APIs.
• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
• Proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (Terraform) and CI/CD pipelines.

Nice to have

• PhD or specific domain knowledge in structural biology or bioinformatics.
• Experience in risk management.
• Ability to manage communications with large international consortium members.
