Lead Software Development Engineer (Java)

Location: Seattle, Washington, United States; expected to work in the office 5 days a week.

Annual base salary: $190,000–$230,000; target annual bonus: 15%.

What you will do

• Manage, mentor, and technically lead a small, high-ownership team of software engineers.
• Write production-grade Java backend code for services, APIs, and data pipelines.
• Design ingestion pipelines, entity resolution, enrichment workflows, and search indexing strategies.
• Own architecture decisions, code quality, performance, reliability, observability, and technical debt reduction.
• Collaborate with engineering management, product, and partner teams on requirements and technical direction.
• Own service infrastructure, feature and release estimates, resource allocation, and delivery against engineering standards.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• 7+ years of backend software engineering experience, primarily with Java on production systems at scale.
• Proven technical leadership experience in a small, high-ownership engineering team.
• Cloud infrastructure experience with GCP preferred or AWS accepted.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring visa sponsorship now or in the future.
• Experience with system design, distributed systems, data modeling, APIs, fault tolerance, testing, CI/CD, and Agile practices.

Nice to have

• Distributed data pipelines and streaming systems, including Kafka or equivalent.
• Elasticsearch or comparable search and indexing platforms.
• PostgreSQL or relational databases at significant data volumes.
• Large-scale data ingestion, transformation, enrichment, entity resolution, deduplication, or data quality pipelines.
• Docker and Kubernetes in production, plus experience using AI tools such as GitHub Copilot or Claude.
