TL;DR
Staff Software Engineer (Backend): Designing and implementing a micro-backend architecture and asset management solution for autonomous vehicle fleets with an accent on high availability, reliability, and real-time vehicle communication. Location: Hybrid (Mountain View, California). Must be in office at least 3 days per week.
Salary: $189,000 - $303,000 per Year

What you will do
- Design complex systems from the ground up in collaboration with software, hardware, and infrastructure teams.
- Implement and maintain a micro-backend architecture on AWS to monitor and manage the commercial fleet.
- Develop fleet management solutions and vehicle communication systems.
- Establish infrastructure to ensure high availability and reliability of products.
- Mentor team members and contribute to a culture of engineering excellence.
- Partner with Product Managers and Designers to deliver autonomous vehicle capabilities.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience building backend services.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- Proficiency with web communication protocols (REST, gRPC, GraphQL).
- Experience building large-scale, high-concurrent, and safety-critical backend services.
- Must be based in or able to work from Mountain View, CA (Hybrid: 3+ days/week in office).
- Strong technical writing and communication skills.
Nice to have
- Experience with embedded autonomous vehicle development or IoT.
- Knowledge of real-time communication between devices and cloud.
- Experience with fleet management for robots, vehicles, or drones.
- Familiarity with application release strategies (feature flagging, canary releases).
- Experience with observability of safety-critical systems.
