What you will do

• Lead high-level design for complex, cross-service features and produce architecture documentation (design docs, ADRs, tech specs).
• Own and implement critical product components in Java with comprehensive test coverage (unit, integration, contract, component).
• Contribute to engineering roadmap planning by identifying technical risks, gaps, and estimating delivery for assigned product areas.
• Drive cross-functional technical communication across engineering, product, DevOps, and ML teams.
• Direct agentic AI tools across the engineering workflow (code generation, testing, refactoring, debugging, documentation) with guardrails for correctness, security, and quality.

Requirements

• Expert Java engineering, including advanced concurrency, NIO/NIO2, performance profiling, heap-dump analysis, and strong Spring Framework/Spring Boot knowledge.
• Strong software architecture skills across monolith and microservices, including REST/gRPC/messaging, distributed transaction patterns (e.g., Sagas/2PC), CQRS, and Event Sourcing.
• Experience designing high-availability, high-load systems on GCP (preferred) with IAM/VPC/security fundamentals and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform or equivalent).
• Proven observability and reliability experience (structured logging, distributed tracing, metrics, alerting) and deployment strategies (rolling updates, blue/green, canary).
• Experience with agentic AI tools for engineering is mandatory (e.g., Claude Code, Codex, or equivalent).
• Work from the office in Montreal/Toronto 1 day per week; flexibility is available for candidates living in other Canadian cities.
