TL;DR

Senior Executive Publisher (Academic Publishing): Driving the strategic growth and innovation of open access platforms PeerJ and F1000 with an accent on business model optimization and market expansion. Focus on leading editorial teams, fostering institutional partnerships, and ensuring commercial viability within the scholarly research landscape.

Location: Must be based in the UK and able to commute to the Milton Park office 3 days per week.

What you will do

  • Establish and implement strategic objectives for PeerJ and F1000 platforms.
  • Lead and empower editorial teams to achieve growth and innovation targets.
  • Optimize business models including membership and article processing charges.
  • Build and maintain relationships with the scientific research community and institutional partners.
  • Monitor market trends in open research and open peer review to maintain competitive advantage.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to ensure administrative efficiency and contract profitability.

Requirements

  • Must have the right to work and live in the UK.
  • Strong experience in academic publishing with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
  • Proven track record in developing strategic plans that drive revenue growth.
  • Demonstrated financial acumen with P&L or budget oversight experience.
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills for stakeholder engagement.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid model with 3 days per week in the office.

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of open peer review, open data, and transparent publishing practices.
  • Established network within the scientific research community.
  • Understanding of emerging technologies in scholarly publishing such as AI and machine learning.
  • Experience working with international, distributed teams.
