TL;DR

Staff Software Engineer (Python/VoIP): Setting the technical direction for a telecommunications platform with an accent on SIP signaling, media call control, and AI inference integration. Focus on scaling the platform to 10,000+ concurrent calls and designing high-availability disaster recovery systems.

Location: Remote (Any, except Russia and Belarus)

What you will do

  • Own end-to-end telecom architecture including SIP edge, media control, and Python services bridging voice to AI.
  • Scale the platform to 10,000+ concurrent calls while maintaining tight latency and SLOs.
  • Design HA and disaster recovery strategies such as anycast SIP and geographic failover.
  • Establish engineering standards for testing, load testing, and code reviews for the telecom team.
  • Mentor senior and middle engineers to raise the overall technical bar.
  • Lead carrier strategy, including SIP trunk vendors, redundancy, and LCR.

Requirements

  • 8+ years of engineering experience, with 4+ years specializing in production VoIP/Telecom.
  • Deep production experience with FreeSWITCH and Kamailio or OpenSIPS at scale.
  • Strong knowledge of SIP, RTP, SRTP, SDP, and ICE protocols.
  • Proficiency in Python, with the ability to work in Lua, Go, or C as needed.
  • Experience with production Kubernetes (GKE/EKS) and Terraform.
  • English: B2-C1 level and Russian: B2 level required.
  • Location: Must be based outside of Russia and Belarus.

Nice to have

  • Experience with WebRTC at scale, RTPengine, Jitsi, or mediasoup.
  • Knowledge of low-latency AI voice pipelines (streaming ASR/TTS, barge-in).
  • Familiarity with STIR/SHAKEN and robocall mitigation.
  • Compliance experience (SOC2, HIPAA, GDPR, PCI) for voice services.
  • Experience hiring and growing a telecom team.
