TL;DR

FOIA Paralegal (Legal): Processing Freedom of Information Act requests and supporting federal litigation with an accent on document review, privilege screening, and redaction. Focus on applying FOIA exemptions, performing legal research, and managing complex document sets using eDiscovery tools.

Location: Must be based in the United States (Boston, MA / Philadelphia, PA / Remote).

Salary: $50,000–$200,000 per year.

What you will do

  • Conduct searches and analyze document sets to identify responsive materials.
  • Screen documents for privilege and apply appropriate FOIA exemptions.
  • Redact and code responsive documents for production.
  • Perform legal research using tools like LEXIS and Westlaw.
  • Draft legal documents and cite-check motions and memoranda.
  • Manage document review and file management systems.

Requirements

  • Must be a US citizen or eligible to obtain a government security clearance.
  • Paralegal certificate, JD, or current enrollment in an ABA-accredited law school with at least one year completed.
  • At least one year of litigation paralegal experience.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of FOIA rules, regulations, and exemption application.
  • Proficiency with eDiscovery tools such as Nuix Investigate or Relativity.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English.

Nice to have

  • Two years of experience using Nuix Investigate for document review.
  • Two years of experience processing FOIA requests for federal agencies.
  • Trial experience.
