TL;DR

Motion Editor (VFX): Retargeting and editing realistic motion-captured performances for high-end film and VFX projects with an accent on body mechanics, posture, and fluid motion blending. Focus on delivering high-quality animations for human, bipedal, and quadruped characters while ensuring seamless interaction with props and environments.

Location: Must be based in or able to work onsite in Vancouver, Canada (Hybrid: 2-3 days onsite per week).

Salary: C$67,000 – C$85,700 per year.

What you will do

• Perform independent retargeting of motion data from hierarchies to character rigs.
• Adjust and improve motion-captured performances while maintaining non-destructive workflows.
• Refine character interactions with props, terrain, and other characters.
• Enhance animation quality by adding secondary motion like fingers, toes, and tails.
• Create fluid, believable transitions between animation clips using motion blending techniques.

Requirements

• Must be based in or able to work onsite in Vancouver, Canada.
• Degree in Computer Science, Computer Visualization, or Computer Animation, or equivalent professional experience.
• Proven experience in high-end film VFX or the video game industry.
• Proficiency in MotionBuilder, Blender, Nuance, or Maya.
• Strong understanding of retargeting techniques and animation principles.
• Up-to-date showreel showcasing motion-captured work.

Nice to have

• Experience with Linux and Vicon Shogun Post.
• Background in Mocap animation.
