Software Engineering Manager (Healthcare)

What you will do

• Recruit, mentor, and develop engineers while building a culture of collaboration, ownership, and continuous learning.
• Set technical direction and guide architectural decisions for scalable, performant, and secure software.
• Drive engineering initiatives from conception through delivery and align execution with strategic goals.
• Partner with product, design, and operations to connect engineering outcomes with member experience and business priorities.
• Establish high-velocity engineering practices covering Agile, CI/CD, testing, measurement, and iteration.
• Explore emerging technologies and apply innovative solutions to healthcare challenges.

Requirements

• 12+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 3+ years in a formal leadership or management role.
• Proven success hiring, coaching, and scaling high-performing engineering teams; startup experience is preferred for this qualification.
• Strong software engineering foundation, proficiency in Python, and experience building large-scale distributed systems.
• Familiarity with AWS or Google Cloud and Docker or Kubernetes for scalable, resilient applications.
• Experience balancing engineering speed with quality through Agile practices, test-driven development, and continuous integration/deployment.
• Ability to lead and build culture in a distributed team, communicate effectively, and build trust across time zones.
• Passion for healthcare innovation and helping people manage their health through technology.
• Bias toward action, adaptability, decision-making under uncertainty, entrepreneurial thinking, and continuous improvement.
• Excellent communication skills, including explaining complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Nice to have

• Data engineering experience managing, processing, and analyzing large datasets.
• Advanced experience with Python backend development, React, React Native, GCP, and Postgres.
• Experience building and deploying machine learning services.
• Startup experience, especially as a founder or early engineering hire.
• Knowledge of or experience with Oura, Whoop, Apple Watch, or continuous glucose monitors.
