TL;DR

Senior Regulatory Engineer (Electrical Distribution): Serving as the technical authority for the interpretation and application of codes and standards governing electrical distribution products with an accent on compliance pathways and certification strategies. Focus on defining certification approaches, supporting R&D teams, and maintaining product listings with external bodies like UL and CSA.

Location: Must be based in Franklin, TN; Fremont, CA; Jacksonville, FL; or Tualatin, OR

Salary: $120,000–$165,000 per year

What you will do

  • Provide authoritative interpretation of codes and standards like NEC, UL, CSA, and IEEE C37.20 for cross-functional teams.
  • Serve as the primary technical interface with UL and other NRTLs to define certification approaches and manage product listings.
  • Collaborate with R&D, Product Engineering, and Manufacturing to ensure design decisions align with regulatory requirements.
  • Assess the impact of changes to codes and standards on product portfolios and provide actionable guidance.
  • Develop internal training and reference materials regarding compliance and certification standards.
  • Support testing and evaluation activities to ensure continuity of compliant product offerings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • 3–5 years of experience in regulatory compliance or product certification within an electrical manufacturing environment.
  • Direct experience working with UL and/or other NRTLs on product certifications.
  • Strong technical understanding of electrical distribution equipment standards (e.g., UL 1558, UL 891, UL 1008).
  • Ability to interpret evolving standards and apply them to real-world product designs.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

Nice to have

  • Experience with UL or CSA Field Inspections or Field Evaluations.
  • Experience with UL STPs.
