What you will do

• Design and deliver new features for the hirify.global Data Engineering experience from prototype to production.
• Contribute directly to open-source projects including Apache Spark and Livy.
• Develop high-performance features using Scala, Java, or Python.
• Gain deep technical expertise in SQL planners, optimizers, and distributed data layouts like Parquet and Iceberg.
• Debug and resolve complex system-level deployment and performance issues in large-scale clusters.
• Collaborate with distributed teams across the US and Hungary to improve internal infrastructure.

Requirements

• 8-10+ years of professional software development experience.
• Strong expertise in distributed systems design and development.
• Proficiency in at least one of: Java, Scala, or Python.
• Proven experience leading and delivering complex product enhancements.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
• Must be based in or able to work from Budapest, Hungary.

Nice to have

• Experience with SQL planners and query optimization.
• Solid understanding of cloud services (AWS, Azure, GCP, OpenShift).
• History of contributions to open-source projects.
