What you will do

• Design and develop components that replicate or extend IMS TM and DB behaviors, including message handling and transaction scheduling.
• Define architectural direction for IMS replatforming runtimes to ensure parity with core mainframe concepts.
• Translate complex IMS internals and application patterns into scalable, reliable distributed system components.
• Provide authoritative guidance on IMS constructs such as DBD/PSB design, DL/I call flows, and hierarchical locking.
• Conduct deep technical reviews and troubleshoot complex runtime compatibility issues.
• Mentor engineering teams on IMS fundamentals and modern implementation strategies.

Requirements

• 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with senior-level ownership of complex systems.
• Direct hands-on experience developing or maintaining IMS TM and DB applications on IBM z/OS.
• Deep knowledge of IMS message-driven architecture, PSBs, PCBs, DBD structures, and DL/I calls.
• Strong proficiency in C or C++.
• Proven track record of delivering high-availability, mission-critical software systems.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice to have

• Experience with IMS exit routines, user exits, or database utilities.
• Background in mainframe modernization, replatforming, or emulation technologies.
• Familiarity with COBOL or PL/I application semantics.
• Exposure to cloud-native design, Kubernetes, or hybrid runtime architectures.
• Experience building compilers, runtimes, or interpreters.
