TL;DR
Senior Accounting Technician (Federal Finance): Managing accounts payable, reimbursements, collections, account oversight, and financial reporting for a large federal agency with an accent on federal accounting procedures, reconciliation, and financial data analysis. Focus on processing payroll and travel transactions, tracking obligations and expenditures, resolving system issues, and preparing reports for government review.

Location: Baltimore, MD or Rockville, MD; hybrid or remote work. Must be a US Citizen upfront and able to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.

Salary: $87,360–$126,186.67 per year

What you will do

  • Manage accounts payable, reimbursements, collections, billing, and account oversight.
  • Process payroll and labor adjustments, federal travel transactions, commitments, obligations, and interagency reimbursement agreements.
  • Verify, analyze, and maintain financial information for the DOJ Office of the Comptroller.
  • Track expenditures across multiple accounts and generate weekly reconciliation reports.
  • Prepare financial reports, memorandums, correspondence, forms, and documentation for government agencies and vendors.
  • Support UFMS transaction processing, investigate system errors, maintain databases and records, and contribute to special projects.

Requirements

  • Two-year degree in accounting, or a four-year degree in finance, business, banking, or economics with 30 accounting credit hours.
  • Knowledge of manual and automated accounting systems used by financial institutions.
  • Experience with commitments, obligations, interagency reimbursement agreements, quarterly reviews, accruals, and closeouts.
  • Ability to analyze financial data, identify changes in budgetary or financial activity, and provide technical support.
  • US citizenship is required upfront.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance is required.

Nice to have

  • Experience with UFMS, JEDI, SAFARI, E-2, SAMS.gov, and Excel.
  • Budgeting cycle management, financial management, accounts payable and receivable, auditing, cash flow analysis, and reimbursable agreement management.
  • Experience with obligations processing, funds tracking, statistical analysis, fraud-related research, database support, reporting, and records management.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including VLOOKUP, pivot tables, table arrays, sorting, formatting, and data correction.
