Staff Accountant - BSC (Hybrid) (Energy)

Location: Chicago, Illinois, United States; hybrid work

Salary: $71,200–$97,900 annual base salary; eligible positions may receive a 10% annual bonus.

What you will do

• Perform monthly and quarterly financial statement close activities and ensure accurate, timely recording of transactions.
• Prepare financial reports, analyze variances and trends, and develop recommendations based on account reconciliations and large data sets.
• Execute Sarbanes-Oxley controls and support accurate financial statements and regulatory reporting.
• Collaborate with cross-functional partners on accounting issues, forecasting, planning, and business decisions.
• Support internal and external audits, regulatory data requests, and external stakeholder interactions.
• Analyze processes and lead improvements involving automation, emerging technologies, and changes in accounting or regulatory requirements.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent qualification.
• 2–4 years of related accounting experience.
• Knowledge of accounting theory, principles, practices, FASB/GAAP, and SOX compliance.
• Strong analytical, judgment, documentation, communication, teamwork, and project management skills.
• Ability to work under minimal supervision and coach or mentor less experienced team members.
• Occasional overtime, weekend work, and limited travel may be required.

Nice to have

• MBA with a concentration in Accounting or Finance.
• CPA certification or public accounting experience.
• Regulatory, utility, FERC, SEC reporting, or energy industry experience.
• Experience using analytical tools and artificial intelligence to improve processes and analysis.
