What you will do

• Develop and ship backend code daily (approx. 70% of time) using Python and FastAPI.
• Define the 12–24 month technical roadmap and author RFCs for backend and AI infrastructure.
• Design and evolve foundational platforms, including model routing, agent runtimes, and observability stacks.
• Lead cost-optimization and production reliability initiatives, including SLO design and incident response.
• Collaborate with the AI team to integrate LLM features and create abstraction layers for model providers.
• Mentor senior engineers and drive engineering excellence through standards and architecture reviews.

Requirements

• 10+ years of backend development experience, including 2+ years in a staff or lead role.
• Expertise in Python (FastAPI, async, type system) and production-grade databases (SQLAlchemy, PostgreSQL).
• Strong intuition for distributed systems, including caching, queues, and eventual consistency.
• Mastery of GCP (Cloud Run, Cloud SQL, GCS, VPCs, IAM).
• Proven track record of technical leadership through the authorship of org-wide RFCs.
• Ability to design and ship internal frameworks used by other engineering teams.

Nice to have

• Experience with production LLM integration (Anthropic, OpenAI, Vertex AI).
• Familiarity with agent frameworks like Pydantic AI, LangGraph, or FastMCP.
• Frontend experience with React, Angular, or Vue.
• Experience scaling AI products from 0 to 10.
• Background in security/compliance (SOC2, GDPR).
