Policy & Representation Intern (Public Policy)

TL;DR

Policy & Representation Intern (Public Policy): Supporting a healthy policy environment for hirify.global and Member stations through legislative advocacy and communication efforts with an accent on drafting campaign collateral and educating lawmakers. Focus on managing advocacy initiatives, performing legislative research, and coordinating grassroots campaign activities.

Location: On-site in Washington, D.C.

hirify.global is a mission-driven multimedia organization producing award-winning news, information, and music programming in partnership with public radio stations across the US.

What you will do

• Draft campaign collateral for state-level efforts to defend and support public radio.
• Create backgrounders, templates, and resources to educate lawmakers and stakeholders.
• Conduct stakeholder and legislative research tasks.
• Collaborate with the Network Communications team on grassroots campaign activities.
• Support the execution of advocacy activations such as Public Radio Music Day and Rural Voices Day.
• Provide administrative support for virtual and in-person educational events.

Requirements

• Must be a current student in an accredited degree program or a recent graduate (no more than 12 months) focusing on public policy, political science, or communications.
• Must be based in and able to work on-site in Washington, D.C.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Basic knowledge of legislative processes in state legislatures and Congress.
• Experience with nonpartisan advocacy and a commitment to bipartisanship.
• Strong project management skills and ability to work in small, collaborative teams.

Nice to have

• Working knowledge of design software.
• Experience with WordPress and/or MailChimp.
