Principal AI Engineer (Edtech)

TL;DR

Principal AI Engineer (AI Agents): Building and deploying production-ready internal AI agents to automate workflows across Go-to-Market and Customer Experience teams with an accent on orchestration patterns, evaluation discipline, and reusable skill libraries. Focus on designing multi-step tool-using agents and establishing a scalable internal AI platform.

Location: Must be based in eligible US states (Remote) or Hybrid in Austin, TX (3 days/week)

Salary: $190,000 – $220,000 base

What you will do

• Embed with internal teams to map workflows and ship production-ready AI agents that reduce administrative friction.
• Design and develop multi-step, tool-using agents using LLM APIs, MCP servers, and frameworks like LangGraph or OpenAI Agents SDK.
• Define and architect the internal agent platform, establishing patterns for orchestration, discovery, and human handoff.
• Build a reusable skills library to ensure AI capabilities compound across different organizational functions.
• Implement rigorous evaluation harnesses, guardrails, and observability dashboards to measure impact and reliability.
• Partner with the CTO on AI strategy and ensure all tools comply with FERPA, COPPA, PCI, and CCPA requirements.

Requirements

• 8+ years of experience building production software.
• Direct experience shipping multi-step, tool-using LLM workflows in a production or near-production context.
• Working knowledge of the modern agent stack: LLM APIs (Anthropic, OpenAI), agent frameworks (LangGraph, etc.), and MCP.
• Ability to build full-stack components, including scripting, API integrations, and data pipelines.
• Must be based in eligible US states.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.

Nice to have

• Experience shaping internal AI platforms, including orchestration and eval pipelines.
• Background in developer experience (DevEx), internal tools, or platform engineering.
• Familiarity with K-12 edtech or other regulated verticals (healthcare, fintech).
• Fluency in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, Node.js, and AWS.
