Design Lead (Payments): Lead a small design team behind the core merchant product experience for global payment flows, with an accent on experience strategy, quality bar, and systems-heavy interaction design. Focus on designing stateful, conditional payment workflows, partnering with Product and Engineering on major trade-offs, and extending the design system while leading research and coaching designers.
Location: Remote (United Kingdom; Hungary; Ireland; Poland; Portugal; Romania; South Africa)
Company
builds unified payments infrastructure that helps merchants connect and orchestrate multiple payment services through a single platform.
What you will do
- Own the experience strategy and quality bar for the merchant workspace domain, making final calls on major design trade-offs.
- Lead and develop 2–3 designers: coach through real work, run critique to raise the bar, and conduct honest growth conversations.
- Stay in the tools: spend about half the time on the hardest or highest-leverage design problems.
- Partner with Product and Engineering leads as an equal voice on strategy, shaping what gets built and why.
- Extend the design system by adding patterns and components needed in your domain.
- Lead research to uncover non-obvious problems across different user groups, then translate findings into direction.
Requirements
- Strong portfolio of shipped product design on complex, systems-heavy products (SaaS, fintech, infrastructure, or developer-facing work preferred).
- Experience leading designers (formally or as the senior person others looked to) and raising quality through others.
- Deep craft across interaction, visual, and information architecture; ability to set standards.
- Proven ability to own a domain end to end—from ambiguous problem to shipped outcome with measurable impact.
- Judgment to decide when to go deep vs. move, with autonomy to run an area without close management.
- Remote-first working style: written, asynchronous, and self-directed; comfortable with ambiguity and shifting context.
Culture & Benefits
- Fully remote, globally distributed team with remote-first working practices and planned face-to-face time (workations, annual retreat, co-working access worldwide).
- Competitive share options.
- Uncapped holiday with a minimum of 25 days to be taken.
- £500 toward home office setup, best equipment for the role, and co-working space access.
- Workations and company retreat, generous learning budget, and private medical insurance.
- Additional perks and benefits vary by location.
Hiring process
- Intro call with a Talent Partner.
- Interview with the Hiring Manager.
- Challenge stage contextualized to the role, followed by a final values-alignment interview.
