What you will do

• Provide subject matter expertise on federal and state tax-exempt status, governance, and charitable solicitation laws for 501(c)(3), 501(c)(4), and 527 organizations.
• Ensure organizational compliance with campaign finance laws, lobbying disclosure requirements, and gift/ethics rules.
• Educate and train senior leadership and staff on legal risks related to nonprofit governance and communications law.
• Collaborate with fundraising staff to ensure compliance with registration requirements and gift acceptance policies.
• Advise on nonprofit accounting matters, including fund accounting principles and revenue recognition for grants.
• Develop corporate policies and manage the selection and supervision of outside counsel.

Requirements

• Juris Doctor (JD) from an ABA-accredited U.S. law school.
• Bar Admission: Must be eligible to practice in New York or Washington, DC.
• Expertise in exempt-organization tax matters and campaign finance laws.
• Experience in nonprofit accounting and charitable solicitation law.
• Strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills with the ability to provide strategic business advice.
• Preferably 7+ years of experience as a practicing attorney in relevant legal frameworks.
