Technical Operations Specialist - Off Shift (Manufacturing)

Location: Onsite in Grand Rapids, Michigan, United States, with full-time presence required. The role supports second or third shift and may be eligible for relocation benefits.

What you will do

• Maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and optimize electrical and mechanical manufacturing equipment, including conveyors, robots, automated systems, PLCs, tooling, vision systems, and air-handling equipment.
• Perform preventive, predictive, planned, and reactive maintenance across electrical, hydraulic, mechanical, pneumatic, and robotic systems.
• Plan, schedule, document, and execute maintenance and process projects, including system upgrades, new installations, design, build, and debugging.
• Support production operators and manufacturing teams in achieving throughput, uptime, reliability, and process ownership targets.
• Provide technical expertise, train operators and peers, and communicate machine issues, schedules, and solutions to coworkers and management.
• Lead or participate in lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives while maintaining compliance with GM, OSHA, and MIOSHA safety requirements.

Requirements

• Technical degree, four-year apprenticeship, equivalent experience, or an electrical or mechanical journeyman's license.
• At least 8 years of experience as a maintenance technician or electrician technician.
• Experience with high-volume automotive manufacturing, advanced mechanical and electrical concepts, PLCs, robotics, fluid power, pneumatics, schematics, blueprint reading, and welding.
• Strong hands-on mechanical and electrical skills, problem-solving ability, independent judgment, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work onsite in Grand Rapids, Michigan, on second or third shift.
• GM immigration-related sponsorship is not available for this role, including H-1B, OPT, STEM OPT, CPT, TN, and J-1 support.

Nice to have

• Experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix or CompactLogix, Siemens HMI, and editing PLC programs.
• Fanuc robotics programming and maintenance experience.
• Knowledge of process equipment sequencing, error-proofing, diagnostics, and maintenance software.
• MIG, TIG, brazing, or ARC welding experience.
