What you will do

• Provision and manage AWS RDS instances entirely through Terraform, including parameter groups and multi-AZ setups.
• Own database reliability by designing runbooks, defining SLOs, and setting up alerting for slow queries and replication lag.
• Automate database operations such as schema migrations, backup validation, and patching via CI/CD pipelines.
• Partner with development teams to improve performance using EXPLAIN ANALYZE, query tuning, and indexing strategies.
• Secure the data layer through encryption at rest/transit, IAM authentication, and credential rotation via AWS Secrets Manager.
• Participate in on-call rotations, drive Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and implement permanent fixes for incidents.

Requirements

• Strong proficiency in SQL, including complex queries, performance tuning, and EXPLAIN plans.
• Deep experience with AWS services: RDS Aurora, Secrets Manager, IAM, CloudWatch, and VPC networking.
• Expertise in Terraform for writing modules, state management, and remote backends.
• Scripting skills in Python or Bash for operational tooling and automation.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, specifically GitLab CI or equivalent.
• Hands-on experience with observability tools such as Datadog, Prometheus, or Grafana.

Nice to have

• Deep PostgreSQL knowledge, including vacuuming, autovacuum tuning, and logical/streaming replication.
• Experience configuring PgBouncer or RDS Proxy for connection pooling.
• Understanding of Kubernetes sidecar patterns and secrets injection.
• Experience with zero-downtime schema migration tools like Flyway or Liquibase.
• Familiarity with financial services regulations, including PCI DSS and SOC 2 controls.
