Salary: $145,000 – $230,000 depending on location (plus equity)

What you will do

• Own database reliability across Aurora, OpenSearch, Redis, and CDC pipelines, including schema design and migration safety.
• Optimize Django ORM usage at scale by implementing CI checks to catch N+1 patterns and define physical schema standards.
• Operate and evolve the CDC pipeline from Aurora through DMS to S3 Parquet and Snowflake.
• Improve observability using pganalyze, CloudWatch, and Honeycomb with Django-side instrumentation.
• Drive multi-AZ resilience, including failover behavior, RTO/RPO, and AZ topology for Redis and OpenSearch.
• Build self-service tooling and dashboards to provide product teams visibility into their query footprint.

Requirements

• Deep PostgreSQL expertise, including fluency in EXPLAIN ANALYZE, MVCC, lock contention, and Aurora Serverless V2 tuning.
• Experience with production-scale ORMs (Django, SQLAlchemy, or similar) and ability to predict generated SQL.
• Hands-on experience running CDC pipelines in production, ideally with AWS DMS and Parquet-based data lakes.
• Proficiency with observability tools like pganalyze, CloudWatch, and Honeycomb (OpenTelemetry).
• Experience with OpenSearch, Redis, and at least one production message broker (SQS, RabbitMQ, or Kafka).
• Ability to write automation in Python or Go and manage infrastructure via Terraform.

Nice to have

• Experience with event sourcing on Postgres or tools like Debezium, Fivetran, or Airbyte.
• Expertise with pgbouncer or RDS Proxy at scale.
• Snowflake producer-side experience (staging, Snowpipe, external tables).
• Knowledge of SOC 2 Type II or GDPR compliance.
