Salary: $100,000 – $140,000 (United States wage range)

What you will do

• Design and develop scalable backend services using Java and Spring Boot in a cloud environment.
• Build and maintain REST APIs and microservices for high-volume notification and communication workflows.
• Modernize and improve a large Java EE legacy codebase as part of ongoing modernization efforts.
• Improve system performance, reliability, and maintainability across distributed services.
• Collaborate with frontend engineers working in React and NestJS to deliver cohesive end-to-end solutions.
• Support secure software delivery practices aligned with VA DevSecOps and federal compliance standards; participate in code reviews and Agile ceremonies.

Requirements

• 5+ years of backend engineering experience with Java as the primary language.
• Strong experience with Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservice architecture.
• Experience working with or modernizing Java EE legacy systems.
• Experience working in AWS cloud environments.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States; some roles may require U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a federal background investigation and/or security clearance.
• Clear communication in writing and collaboration in a remote Agile environment.
