Software Engineer (L3) Data Substrate

Location: Remote, United States. The role is not eligible for hiring in San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, or the surrounding areas. Occasional travel may be required for project or team meetings.

Salary: $138,700–$173,400, $146,800–$183,600, or $163,100–$203,900 annually, depending on location. Equity and a corporate bonus plan may also be available.

What you will do

• Design, build, and maintain infrastructure and scalable frameworks for data ingestion, processing, and analysis.
• Architect high-performance data systems, distributed storage solutions, and processing frameworks.
• Build frameworks focused on performance, reliability, data quality, integrity, and security.
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions with cross-functional teams.
• Contribute to large-scale data platform initiatives and mentor early-career engineers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of software development or related experience.
• Experience architecting and delivering complex data projects at scale, with strong knowledge of data infrastructure and distributed systems.
• Strong proficiency in Python, Java, Go, or Scala.
• Experience with Spark, Kafka, Athena, ClickHouse, DynamoDB, distributed computing, streaming pipelines, REST APIs, and AWS at scale.
• Strong software engineering, analytical, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Nice to have

• Experience building data products and data lake products.
• Bias toward action and the ability to iterate and ship rapidly.
