Researcher / Senior Researcher (AI)

Location: Fully remote; applicants from many countries and all time zones are welcome. Preference for overlap with UTC–8 (Pacific Time) and UTC (Greenwich Mean Time). Travel to three retreats per year is preferred. Access is available to offices in Berkeley, California.

Salary: Researcher: $115,000–$185,000 annual salary; Senior Researcher: $168,000–$300,000 annual salary. Compensation may be paid in local currencies.

hirify.global is a research institute investigating trends in machine learning and the economic consequences of AI while developing a publicly accessible knowledge base for policymakers, industry, and society.

What you will do

• Investigate the drivers of AI progress, capabilities, adoption, and societal and economic impacts.
• Produce data insights, reports, data explorers, research papers, and newsletter publications.
• Research AI data centers, compute supply chains, hardware ownership, chip deployment, and infrastructure constraints.
• Design and analyze polls, randomized controlled trials, behavioral data, AI model experiments, and quantitative estimates.
• Create, evaluate, certify, and improve benchmarks covering AI research, mathematical and scientific discovery, strategic reasoning, cybersecurity, computer use, and multimodal reasoning.
• Collaborate across research teams to define new research directions and develop exploratory findings into lasting products.

Requirements

• Curiosity, rapid learning, and the ability to investigate unfamiliar topics across diverse domains.
• Rigorous reasoning under uncertainty and the ability to make quantitative estimates with limited information.
• Familiarity with AI trends.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Professional-level English proficiency; application materials must be submitted in English.
• Relevant research experience, AI development pipeline experience, or related organizational experience is valuable but not required.
