TL;DR

IP Counsel (Copyright): Navigating emerging copyright challenges unique to frontier AI systems with an accent on model outputs, product features, and AI training data. Focus on establishing copyright frameworks, advising technical teams, and advancing public views through policy engagement.

Location: Must be based in or able to work from San Francisco, Seattle, New York City, or Washington, D.C. (minimum 3 days a week in office)

Salary: $320,000 - $385,000 USD

What you will do

• Serve as the internal expert on copyright law for research, product, litigation, and policy stakeholders.
• Advise technical teams on copyright issues regarding model development, features, and content policies.
• Monitor and translate US and international copyright developments into internal guidance.
• Help shape public positions and create advocacy materials on copyright and AI.
• Collaborate with internal and external counsel on copyright-related litigation.
• Engage with academics and industry groups to develop best practices for AI.

Requirements

• JD and active membership in at least one U.S. state bar (California preferred).
• Expertise in U.S. copyright law and its application to emerging technologies.
• Ability to translate complex legal concepts for technical teams into practical solutions.
• Track record of thriving in fast-paced environments balancing innovation with risk management.
• Exceptional communication skills for cross-functional collaboration.

• 10+ years of legal experience advising technology companies or AI/ML products.
• Experience advising on machine learning development lifecycles and associated copyright challenges.
