TL;DR

Senior HIL Engineer (Automotive/Electrification): Developing, deploying, and maintaining hardware-in-the-loop environments for embedded controls software and calibrations with an accent on battery-management solutions for non-automotive and unique automotive products. Focus on creating simulation models, tuning test environments, and performing correlation activities based on experimental data.

Location: Hybrid in Milford, Michigan (US). Candidates must be based in the US and expected to report to the office at least 3 times a week.

What you will do

  • Define, develop, and maintain HIL environments to enable verification and validation of embedded controls software.
  • Create and maintain simulation models for plants, sensors, actuators, and serial data communication.
  • Collaborate with system engineering, software development, and calibration stakeholders to identify customer solutions.
  • Evaluate, parametrize, and tune test environments based on system requirements.
  • Perform root cause analysis for unexpected test results and resolve execution issues.
  • Benchmark and adopt next-generation simulation technology and tools.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical, Software, or Computer Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience, including 3+ years in simulation and testing of electronic control modules.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB and Simulink for plant model development and integration.
  • Experience with programming languages such as Python and/or C/C++.
  • Knowledge of automotive communication protocols (CAN, LIN, FlexRay, Ethernet, SPI).
  • Must be based in or able to commute to Milford, Michigan (Hybrid role).

Nice to have

  • Master's degree in a relevant engineering field or 10+ years of experience.
  • Experience in electrification controls (BMS, energy transfer, AC/DC charging).
  • Familiarity with simulation tools like GT Suite, CarSim, or Amesim.
  • Experience with HIL tools such as ETAS INCA, Lauterbach, CANalyzer, or Vehicle Spy.
  • DFSS Black Belt certification.
