Software Engineer (VB6/Python)

What you will do

• Maintain and incrementally modernize a large VB6 legacy codebase powering government operations.
• Refactor legacy code and build new components using Python and SQL.
• Utilize AI tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot) to read, document, and understand complex legacy systems.
• Optimize SQL queries and diagnose production issues within a multi-tenant environment.
• Collaborate directly with client engineers and product leaders to execute the modernization roadmap.

Requirements

• Must be based in Latin America.
• Solid experience with SQL Server and relational database design.
• Ability to read and understand VB6, COM/ActiveX, or equivalent legacy technologies.
• Comfort working daily with AI coding tools such as Cursor or Copilot.
• Strong debugging and problem-solving skills in production environments.

Nice to have

• Experience with GIS technologies (ESRI MapObjects, ArcSDE).
• Familiarity with Jenkins or GitHub Actions for CI/CD.
• Python scripting for automation or tooling.
• Prior exposure to legacy-to-modern migration projects.
• Experience with multi-tenant database architecture.
