What you will do

  • Design and maintain a low-fidelity discrete event simulation platform for lab workflows, instrument states, and robotic transport.
  • Architect the platform to allow production scheduling and fleet coordination code to run with minimal changes.
  • Build infrastructure for experiment tracking and reproducibility, ensuring every run is logged and versioned.
  • Develop tooling for parameter sweeps, scheduler benchmarks, and capacity planning.
  • Partner with Scheduling and Robotics teams to validate new coordination strategies.
  • Ship clean, well-documented simulation APIs for internal use.

Requirements

  • 1-3 years of hands-on experience in simulation engineering, operations research, or a related field.
  • Strong software engineering fundamentals including testing, CI/CD, and API design.
  • Deep understanding of experiment reproducibility (seeding, versioning, logging).
  • Solid grasp of system modeling concepts such as queuing, resource contention, and stochastic behavior.
  • Must be based in or authorized to work in Cambridge, MA USA

Nice to have

  • Practical experience with discrete event simulation tools like SimPy.
  • Experience in robotics, warehousing, or logistics environments.
  • Familiarity with scheduling algorithms (greedy dispatching, constraint-based approaches).
  • Experience with experiment tracking platforms such as MLflow or Weights & Biases.
